Rebuilding Homes for Disabled Soldiers

Posted Apr 2, 2009 3:03 PM
I feel this is a project that should be looked at. As a disabled veteran who has major problems with my own home I know how hard it is to pay for the repairs. I have a leaking roof, mold and mildew in several areas of my home, drainage problems everytime it rains whiich flood the downstairs bedroom,, a weak foundation, you name it it is bad. I cannot afford even one of these repairs much less all of them. In reality the house should be bulldozed and rebuilt but that is not going to happen. With the economy as it is my VA compensation just doesn;t go very far.
Low cost services or loans would be a nice thing to have around.

agreed... MANY MANY of our disabled military and veterans are in need RIGHT HERE AT HOME!

What is with this garbage of "taking our money overseas"

think globally but act locally!

Why are the "top rated" projects listed focused primarily on other countries? And why aren't people focusing on those who gave so much so that we can remain free???

This is a very worthwhile project and a way for all of us to give back to those few who have given us so much!

This is the best choice - it benefits disabled vets the most.
Touchy-feely projects shoud be avoided. Projects like this are what the vast majority of our guys can get the most help from. - Fellow Vet

Giving Back to Those Who Gave So Much

I have actually been on-site for one of these veterans projects and they are an amazing experience. Communities come together to assist. I have seen the full range of participants from volunteers, construction companies, veterans groups, church groups and the homeowners themselves. The work that is done impacts the lives of not only the veterans, who are able to live much more comfortably, but also everyone who comes to the project day to help out! It's an experience I'll never forget, truly a worthy cause to donate to!
