I also got a message on my card statement. I've also seen a TV ad several times about the Members Project. It uses clips from previous American Express commercials and attaches a personal project to each.

This is to Zlatkovsky's post Did you sign up to get emails from American Express? Most of the times I get offers for things I'm not really interested in but its also how I learned about Members Project -- both last year and this year. I also got a message on my card statement.

CM877005 You are correct if you get the community or some organizations involved with a project you can work miracles. Although it does take a lot of work as you stated but usually the cause is well worth the effort. Would you like a chance to contribute to a worthy cause within your community call your mayor's office or look in the phone book under organizations or churches and call them to assist your search.

I think that this is where community involvement comes in. You cannot expect an AmEx or Oprah to fix everything. It is up to US to fix what is wrong in our own communities. We hold fundraisers, beg for $5,000, pay with our own money, blood, sweat and tears to those causes and issues that are close to our hearts. The big job is getting the manpower to back up what you are trying to do. You have to look deep within to repair years and years of societal woes and then decide if that is a ship you want to be on.... and go down with.

Jane, I know our comments are being read... they're being read by you. The question is are YOURS being read by AmEx? You are the gatekeepers between us and the company.

I don't know what the moderators can say to assure you other than simply making the statement that your comments are being read and will be considered when the Members Project is reviewed and evaluated. When a family, city, company, or world attempts to be inclusive in any decision making process, there will always be someone who isn't happy, that can't be helped. What you can do, though, is review what you've done and determine what you can do to make the process better, but even then, there will be some people who won't be happy. I know that being included at all in any company's decision about charitable giving is pretty unique. -- Edited by MPHostJane at 10/01/2008 12:18 PM PDT

Absolutely we do. It's just that when I see the words "I am sure they will...." it sounds a little like you're assuming they will, as opposed to "They will definitely see my comments." AmEx is a big company, but I doubt they have people trolling this discussion board for comments and suggestions... other than the MPHosts. I assume you have the ability to take an issue that might be mentioned here and bring it to whoever would facilitate it. If you don't, then the company should seriously consider giving you a way to do that. Otherwise, a lot of what has been mentioned in many of these topics just gets buried in the ongoing discussion without "AmEx" ever hearing anything about it beyond what you see.

American Express is a well established respectable company that has been around for many years. Our position as MPHost would be the same as if you held a working position for any company, some questions we can answer and some we have to send to the company to answer. With AMEX being the dependable company that they are I am sure they will review and take into consideration all comments they receive from this project as well as any suggestion made to the company. Does the company that you work for not have a established set of rules and guidelines for each employees position that guide them for the company where you work. -- Edited by MPHostDoris at 09/30/2008 2:49 PM PDT -- Edited by MPHostDoris at 09/30/2008 2:52 PM PDT -- Edited by MPHostDoris at 09/30/2008 2:54 PM PDT

Ahh, I see. So you DO escalate issues you feel AmEx should be aware of. It's just that they don't give you a confirmation that they have made a decision regarding a particular issue? Or worse, that they have even read the report you give them? If you ask me that sounds like a crappy position to be in; to have to seemingly represent AmEx without a real good way of facilitating certain issues, and therefore you get the brunt of the abuse.

Do you know this for sure? I assume as MPHosts, it is your job to represent AmEx. You are AmEx, aren't you? (Or am I mistaken somehow?) It is our job as MPHosts to facilitate conversation and to monitor the Discussion Board. Which I know really isn't the answer you were looking for! It is my understanding, though certainly I may be wrong, that AmEx staff has been made aware of issues escalated. Situations such as this, where CardMembers cite specific issues are examples of something we, as MPHosts, would escalate. That does not mean, however, that you shouldn't continue to contact AmEx directly to express your concerns. The more people who address an issue openly and directly, the more likely you are to see satisfactory action. Thanks! MPHostAstaria

As awesome as the award is for this contest, it shouldn't stop anyone from pursuing their projects through other means. There ARE other means out there. Just as there are tons of worthy projects and causes. Keep pressing on and find that support for your ideas!! To quote a smart little boy in a movie I saw recently, "You never, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER EVER EVER give up." MPHostHeidi

I think this AMEX's idea is really political. I had a really good idea that would change the world and I didnt get notified of this contest.
