Each day we are seeing more and more products advertised in the media, claiming to be environmentally friendly (green). It turns out that this is a major farce in many cases. Many products that advertise that they are a green are far from being green. This is called greenwashing. A few companies have recently come out, trying to educate the public on actual green products they are purchasing. They want you to realize that, just because a product claims to be green, does not necessarily mean it is green. For example, recycled products such as paper or plywood, may lead you to believe they are made from 100% recycled materials but, when you begin to investigate their claim, you may find that only a small percentage of the product, is actually made from recycled materials. We all need to do our homework if we are planning to buy green, build, or renovate our homes, to be green. Have you recently started a green renovation program or started purchasing supposedly green products for your home? If so, did you do your homework before purchasing that “green” product? What exactly did you buy? How did you know that the product you purchased was truly green?
